Measuring pain
A philanthropic initiative to type chronic pain the way we type blood.
Biography
Araki has spent the past decade discovering drugs for chronic diseases of aging. As a teenager, Araki worked on CRISPR technology at Yale.
He continued his research at UW–Madison, which he left early to join Gordian, a longevity startup in San Francisco. Inspired by his drug discovery experience, in 2025 Araki founded Artemis, a philanthropic startup building new animal models for chronic disease.
He later spun it down to make way for a philanthropic initiative on chronic pain, blending his drug discovery experience with his personal challenges around it. Araki writes extensively about his experiences and theses on Substack, and serves as an advisor and investor in biotech startups and philanthropic organisations.
His work has been supported by Renaissance Philanthropy, Emergent Ventures, among others.
In Alex's words
