Biography

Max Gallen is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker drawn to bold visuals, surreal ideas, and stories that balance humor with genuine emotion. His work often blends live-action filmmaking, visual effects, and emerging technology to explore transformation, identity, and the increasingly blurry line between the real and digital worlds.

Whether he is making narrative films, surreal comedy, or character-driven internet lore storytelling, Max is most interested in creating work that feels ambitious, unexpected, and distinctly human.

He sees filmmaking as a space for experimentation, collaboration, and taking creative risks, and hopes to help shape a future where new technology expands the filmmaker’s imagination rather than replacing it.

In Max's words

“I’m incredibly grateful to receive this fellowship and to have my creativity recognized in such a meaningful way. Not everyone gets the opportunity to pursue their ideas when inspiration strikes or to give those ideas the time and space they deserve. I’m deeply grateful to OSV for giving me that opportunity, and I’m excited to carry it into my evolving approach to filmmaking.”
